About Us

Members United Federal Credit Union was originally chartered as Modine Employees Federal Credit Union by a group of people who wanted to provide a place for their membership to save their hard earned money while providing a resource for their members to borrow money at a reasonable rate of interest. Little did they know that the credit union they formed on June 23, 1941 would grow to become a credit union that would serve people of modest means throughout LaPorte County.

When you become a member of Members United, you actually become one of the owners of this financial cooperative--owning one share. Being an owner entitles you to voting rights to elect board members.

The Organization And How it Functions.

Board of Directors: Board members are elected annually by the membership. Board members are responsible for reviewing the current status of the Credit Union and establishing policies.

Supervisory Committee: Members are appointed annually by the Board of Directors. Committee members, by law, are responsible for performing and reviewing internal audits and verification of accounts.

Auditors and Examiners: Annually, Federal examiners and independent auditors investigate the Credit Union's financial status and compliance with existing laws that govern Federal Chartered Credit Unions.

Credit Union Membership

Members United Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit cooperative financial institution. Our mission is to provide close, personal financial stability of the Credit Union and its members.

The Credit Union is owned by its members. The members elect the Board of Directors from the ranks of the membership. These Directors establish Credit Union policy and make decisions which benefit the membership as a whole.

Members United FCU field of membership consists of:

Persons who live, work, worship, or attend school in LaPorte County;
Business and other legal entities located in LaPorte County, Indiana;
Members of record of this credit union as of the November 7, 2002 conversion to a community field of membership;
Spouses of persons who died while within the field of membership of this credit union;
Employees of this credit union;
Volunteers in the community;
Members of the immediate family or household; and
Organizations of such persons.

MUFCU operates under a federal charter and is supervised by the National Credit Union Administration. Your money is fully insured up to $100,000.00 per account member. Your IRA accounts are insured up to $250,000. Added protection is provided by the bonding of officials and employees. A supervisory committee is appointed by the Board of Directors. It serves as a watchdog for the members of Members United FCU. More specifically it ensures that the records and affairs of Members United are conducted in a fiscally responsible manner and in compliance with NCUA, federal and state laws and regulations.
